Definition

The adrenal glands lie above the kidneys and produce a variety of hormones. Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is a group of inherited conditions where the glands do not work normally, causing impaired production of steroid hormones. The more severe classic form presents in infancy, whereas milder forms present in later childhood/adulthood.
